Board Of Directors

The Board of Directors is chosen by the Bayview Credit Union membership. Accountable to the members it serves, the Board is responsible for strategic planning and ensures that the Credit Union remains prosperous and progressive. Individual board members also serve on various committees.

Elizabeth Chisholm 
President   
 

Elizabeth has served as a member of the Bayview board of directors since 1992, but has been a credit union member since the age of ten, joining in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia where she grew up. Currently she serves as President of the Board of Directors and chairs the educational scholarship committee, and in the past she has also served as the Vice President of the Board of Directors and as a committee member of the Audit and Credit Committees.

Liz serves the people of Saint John as a sergeant on the Saint John City Police Force, shift supervisor for north and west zones of Platoon B.

Liz graduated from the Atlantic Police Academy in 1974. Her education revolves in large part around the field of police work but includes supervision, leadership, conflict resolution and mediation courses. Liz holds most of the required credits to receive the Credit Union Director Certificate.

Tom Bishop 
Vice-President  
 

A lifelong Saint John resident, Tom came to Bayview when Harbour City Credit Union amalgamated in 1992. Tom has served as Board Vice-President since March 2007. He is currently employed with the Department of Justice as the Regional Director of Court Services, bringing the experience of a 20 years-plus law career to his work and the Bayview board. Tom has a B.A. from St. Mary’s University (Halifax), a Master’s in Social Work from Dalhousie University (Halifax), and an LL.B. from the University of New Brunswick.

Tom has served as both a board member and the board chairperson for the Rocmaura Nursing Home. He was also the president of the Saint John Law Society for 2 years.

Tom and his wife Cynthia have four children.

Shirlee Coleman
Secretary
 

Shirlee Coleman first connected with Bayview Credit Union in 1982, when Hospital Services Credit Union amalgamated with Bayview. Shirlee was a founding member of the Hospital Services Credit Union, serving as both vice-president and finance officer. At Bayview Shirlee served on the board of directors until 2003, returning again in 2004. Over the years she has held various executive committee positions, including president, vice president and secretary. She has also chaired the credit committee (chair), and served on the scholarship, nominating and personnel comittees. Always active, today Shirlee serves as the executive board's secretary, chair of both the credit and by-laws committees, member of the scholarship committee and a member of Credit Union Central's committee on legislative affairs. Shirlee was the first Bayview board member to complete the Director Achievement program.

Shirlee is retired from her career in diagnostic imaging at the Saint John Regional Hospital, having worked in various capacities including the Director of Education, Supervisor of CT Scanning, and the Manager and Technical Director of Diagnostic Imaging. She graduated from the St. Joseph's Hospital School of Radiologic Technology, and studied electronics at Saint John Community College. Post graduate work in Diagnostic and Oncology technology took her to London, England.

Larry Gallant 
Director  
 

Larry has been a credit union member for over 30 years. In 1996 Larry retired as a health care executive, having finished his lengthy career as the first vice-president of Human Resources and Communications for the Region 2 Hospital Corporation. Over the years he also worked as the Director of Human Resources for the Saint John Regional Hospital, Assistant Administrator at the Saint John General Hospital and as a Psychiatric Social Worker for both the Saint John General Hospital and the Prince Edward Island Department of Health.

Having served as a Bayview director previously, Larry has returned from a three year hiatus to the board. In his interim break he continued to serve on the Credit Committee, which is ongoing.

Larry graduated with a B.Sc. from St. Dunstan's University in Charlottetown, PEI. and a Master’s in Social Work from St. Francis Xavier University, Antigonish, Nova Scotia. He also holds a Diploma in Social Work from the Maritime School of Social Work in Halifax, a Diploma in Hospital Organization and Management from the Canadian Hospital Association and he is a graduate of the Credit Union Director Achievement Program.

Christine Hoyt
Director
 

Christine Hoyt has been a Bayview Credit Union member since her family moved to Quispamsis, NB in 2004/05. In 2010 she was elected to the Bayview Credit Union Board of Directors at the Annual General Meeting. Christine holds the ICD.D professional Director designation and she has a Masters of Business Administration degree, a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Certificate in Industrial Relations from Queen’s University.

She has worked in several provinces: as a Deputy Minister of Labour and of the Status of Women in Saskatchewan; as a senior executive with the Workers’ Compensation Board in the NWT and Nunavut and with the Canadian Cancer Society in New Brunswick. She has owned and operated businesses and currently is working as a business consultant with Hoyt Consulting.

Christine is also currently on the Board of Directors of the IWK Health Centre (children’s hospital) and New Brunswick branch of the ALS Society of Canada.

Christine lives in Quispamsis with her husband, Kevin and their two university-aged sons.

William Marr
Director
 

William (Bill) Marr has been a member of Bayview Credit Union for over 25 years. He is a strong believer in the co-operative movement, and its equitable “one member, one vote” approach to operations and management.

Bill is a self-employed Chartered Accountant and he works with small and medium-sized businesses throughout New Brunswick, including several CO-OP stores.

Over the years Bill has served as a director on several boards, including:

  • NB Law Foundation
  • Hestia House
  • United Way of Saint John
  • Cherry Brook Zoo

As a volunteer in the community he has been very involved in youth sports, as a coach and a board member for many basketball and baseball teams, and as an active member and chairperson of his church parish council.

Bill lives in West Saint John with his wife Roxanne and their five children.

Kurt Peacock
Director
 

Kurt Peacock has been a proud member of Bayview Credit Union since 2004, when the Oak Hall branch gave him his first mortgage. He is currently a member of the Credit Committee.

 Kurt is currently a visiting lecturer at UNBSJ, where he is examining census trends in Saint John’s inner-city neighbourhoods. From 2005 to 2007, he served as Research Co-ordinator for Vibrant Communities Saint John. He is a board member of Uptown Saint John, the Saint John Human Development Council, and the Saint John Learning Exchange.

Kurt lives with his wife and daughter in Uptown Saint John.

Lois Vincent 
Director
 

Lois Vincent joined Bayview with the opening of our Oak Hall branch in 1995. She has served one three year term and is currently in year two of a second term on the board. She is the Manager of Business Development for Enterprise Saint John and has a Business Diploma in Economic Development from the University of Waterloo, along with numerous related management, financial and economic development courses. Her other community connections include:

David Young
Director
 

David Young was elected to the Bayview Credit Union Board of Directors at the March 2010 Annual General Meeting. As a director, David will be active in many governance issues, with added responsibility as a member of the Bayview Audit Committee.

David graduated in 1990 from UNB with a BSc. in Forestry. His work related experience includes: Applied Research at the University of New Brunswick (Fredericton, NB); Natural Resource Management Consulting (Vancouver, BC); and currently as the Senior Management Forester at J.D. Irving, Limited. For the past 19 years David’s employment focus has been providing technical, operational, and financial advice to senior woodlands staff, district managers, process owners, other divisional vice presidents, and affiliated JDI organizations.

David’s active memberships include: Registered Professional Foresters of NB, Canada Games Aquatic Center, Triathlon NB, and the Fundy Extreme Triathlon Team.

David and his wife live in Rothesay with their five sons.
